How It Started

The National Youth Bike Council officially started in January of 2017, coined by a group of Philadelphia youth motivated by the idea of connecting young people across the nation as leaders in the cycling community. There was something missing, but at the time, we did not know what it was.

There was no question about if we wanted a Council, there was only a question of "Could we accomplish creating the Council?"

In 2017, the initial group consisted of Joshua and Adiva, who were a part of the Youth Council at Neighborhood Bike Works in Philadelphia and Noah from the Youth Advisory Council at Bike Works from Seattle. It started small in a group chat, then grew to an emailing list, and then to recruiting and looking for youth leaders from other locations.
